When do you need RGIE compliance work?
When selling a home whose electrical installation dates from before 1 October 1981, an inspection by an approved body is mandatory. If the report is non-compliant, the buyer has 18 months from the deed to have the works done and a new inspection carried out.
Outside a sale, compliance work is needed after a major renovation, when increasing the power supply, if your installation shows violations (no 30 mA RCD for the bathroom, insufficient earthing, panel without diagrams) or simply because the 25-year periodic inspection is due.

What is the RGIE?
The Règlement Général sur les Installations Électriques (AREI in Dutch) is the Belgian regulation setting the safety rules for electrical installations. Since 1 June 2020 it is organised in three Books; Book 1 covers domestic installations.
Is the electrical inspection mandatory?
Yes, in several cases: sale of a home with an installation dating from before 1981, new installation or major modification, power increase, and periodic inspection every 25 years for domestic installations.
How long do I have after buying to become compliant?
18 months from the deed of sale to have the works done and the installation re-inspected by an approved body.
Do I have to rewire everything?
Rarely. Often fixing the violations listed in the report is enough: panel, RCDs, earthing, a few circuits. We tell you clearly what is mandatory and what is merely advisable.
How much does compliance work cost?
It depends on the number of violations and the condition of the installation. Send us the inspection report: we price each point precisely, free of charge and without commitment.
Do you also carry out the inspection?
No: the inspection must be carried out by an independent approved body. We prepare the file and diagrams, book the appointment if you wish and are present on inspection day.
Does my old panel contain asbestos?
Old board-type panels and some bakelite equipment may contain asbestos. We flag it during the visit and organise proper removal before the works.
